Crawfurd Adamson - Paintings and Pastels 15 June 2001 - 4 July 2001 Schoeni Art Gallery is presenting twelve important works of Scottish artist, Crawfurd Adamson, who is best known for his gestural paintings of the human figure. This exhibition will showcase Adamson's oils and pastels completed over the last two years. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1953, Crawfurd Adamson spent five years at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. For many years he has been exploring themes of people interacting in public places, and in this instance he gives us glimpses of a subterranean life of wine bars, clubs and discos. Many of Adamson's paintings of groups are derived from observations in a pub, jotted down afterwards on scraps of paper. Images are stored away and sketches and studies laid aside until they fit together into, and onto, the canvas. His works emanate powerful emotions whether the subject is a single figure, a triumvirate or multiple groups. His highly painterly style has won him exhibitions throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, America and Japan, and his works are part of many public and private collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Crawfurd Adamson will be present at the opening of his exhibition on 14th June 2001, at Schoeni Art Gallery II on 27 Hollywood Road, Central.
