"Images of Women VIII"

9 October - 12 November 2003

This special serial exhibition celebrates the many faces of women, giving viewers the opportunity to experience various interpretations of women's identities in old societies and in modern times. Throughout art history, male artists have painted women to answer to men's interests, masculine desires, fantasies and anxieties; yet, in this exhibition, viewers will be surprised to find that some woman artists have also painted the female form to satisfy their personal interests, as well as to offer critiques of gender issues.

Participating artists include Ai Xuan, Chen Li, Chen Yu, Jiang Guo Fang, Liu Fei, Li Gui Jun, Liu Ye, Mai Jin Yao, Qi Zhi Long, Shui Mei, Wang Yi Dong, Wang Yi Guang, Xu Wen Tao, Zhang Li, Zhang Yi Bo, Zhong Biao and Zhu Yi Yong. Many of them are recognized internationally.
