In Memory of Mr. Schoeni

All of us have been in deep mourning since the distressful news about Mr. Schoeni broke out. The vivid impression I have of him as a wise person of positive thinking and great humour has kept on re-appearing in my mind. His contribution towards the global promotion of Chinese art has been unfathomable. Indeed he has charted a prominent place in the course of history.

Seven years ago, with his encouragement and assistance I was able to hold my first solo exhibition and have my first catalogue published. His support is the most valuable asset I have ever had in my life. What I have achieved nowadays owes entirely to the nurturing and promotional work done by Schoeni Gallery. All these years whenever I thought of Mr. Schoeni, I would work even harder as if one day I had to present to him my work for examination. In a way he had become a father figure to me. However, the chance of us seeing each other is no more ¨C our meeting in Beijing in 2002 for the 10th Anniversary of the Gallery has become our eternal farewell. At that time the Spring of Beijing had brought us hope for the future - a future full of aspiring plans.

I would like to wish Mr. Schoeni a safe journey. The gloomy Spring of 2004 triggered us to rethink the meaning of life. The death of Mr. Schoeni means a great loss to contemporary Chinese art, and most importantly a great loss to his family and friends who love him so dearly. We hope that Schoeni Gallery, as a reputable brand carrying the name of Mr Schoeni, will have a brighter future with unlimited development. This will be the best comfort for his soul in heaven.

In my heart, Mr. Schoeni lives forever.
